Also, I see a huge passion gap between entrepreneurs and angel/VC investors. A majority of the latter are more interested in making a quick buck than actually building world class companies with their passionate entrepreneurs.

Strongly agree, all the mentioned people had a strong vison on how to make rtechnology work for human and not teach human to use technology. The passion to achive something that fruitfull is real success. esp when developers are so engrossed in finalizing product they forget their aim.. never let that happen.

Great post -- thanks. Which is your company? 1) Predictable money makers. Known market, documented problem, pre-tested concept, execution challenge, passion optional, and 2) Known or unknown market, personally felt problem, untested (often un-prototyped or even un-thought up) concept, creation and execution challenge, passion essential. Which one would you invest in, if you were a smart, risk-averse investor (as I believe most VCs I have met are)?

Thank you for nailing down this concept so brilliantly. It is the piece missing from the puzzle of my own self-belief that I can take the product I have a turn it into a successful company. The furrowed head-shaking I've often encountered from local angels makes sense - they need to read this post and/or i need to portray the full passion i have for "enabling anyone to have a great web presence". Well said! It reminds me of the story of one my investments, Postling. They started on something originally for bed & breakfasts. They were not getting much traction, but saw the same problem over and over again; B&B owners were having difficulty managing their social media presence. They switch gears and built an awesome dashboard for small business owners to manage their social media presence. Their passion for the product is evident and it has been upwards ever since.

Excellent. The relentlessness of the entrepreneur towards making their "baby" the best ever does verge on something almost crazy. That passion is another reason entrepreneurs are so bad at working in established businesses where the compelling problems have already been solved.
